WORLD RECORD HOLDER
In 2002 SKONTO RIGA broke the World Record for most SUCCESSIVE Top Level League Championships in any code of World football. The previous record belonged to St. George Rugby League Club (Sydney) in the Australian Rugby League competition (acknowledged by the Guinness Book of Records). St. George won 11 successive championships from 1956 to 1966 to claim a record which appeared unbreakable until Skonto equalled it in 2001. In 2002, Skonto won their 12th successive championship to be sole holders of this incredible WORLD RECORD. Skonto won another two consecutive championships until 2004. Their record of 14 consecutive titles is unlikely to be ever broken.
